M.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology (B.E./B.Tech) in CSE/IT/ECE/EEE or equivalent with at least 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwD) or CPI of 6.0 on 10-point scale.
• Valid GATE score in CS (Computer Science) or related paper. GATE score validity: 3 years.
• Final year students can also apply, subject to meeting eligibility at the time of admission.
• No age limit.
• Candidates with M.Sc in Computer Science/IT/Mathematics with GATE in CS/MA are also eligible.
• For sponsored candidates: Minimum 2 years work experience in relevant field, GATE may be exempted but sponsorship letter required.

Fee Structure Breakdown

• Tuition Fee: Rs. 25,000 per semester (Rs. 1,00,000 for 4 semesters).
• Other semester fees (gymkhana, medical, library, student welfare, etc.): Rs. 10,000 per semester approx.
• Hostel rent: Rs. 15,000 per semester (double occupancy, includes electricity and water).
• Mess advance: Rs. 12,000 per semester (adjustable against actual meals).
• One-time fees at admission: Rs. 10,000 (registration, enrollment, etc.).
• Refundable caution deposit: Rs. 5,000.
• Total for 2 years (including hostel & mess): Approximately Rs. 2,50,000 - Rs. 3,00,000 depending on mess consumption.
• Scholarships: GATE scholars receive Rs. 12,400 per month (MHRD scholarship) for first two years; non-GATE candidates (sponsored) not eligible for stipend.

Seat Matrix

• Total M.Tech CSE seats: 45.
• Category-wise as per Government of India norms: GEN – 50%, OBC-NCL – 27%, SC – 15%, ST – 7.5%, EWS – 10% (within GEN).
• Horizontal reservation for PwD: 5%.
• Sponsored seats: Up to 10% of total seats (subject to institute norms).

Admission Process (through CCMT)

• Admission to M.Tech at IIT Guwahati is through the Centralized Counseling for M.Tech (CCMT) conducted by CCMT committee.
• Step 1: Qualify GATE with valid score. Register on GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS).
• Step 2: After GATE results, register on CCMT portal (ccmt.nic.in) during the advertised window (usually April-May).
• Step 3: Fill choices of IITs, NITs, and other institutes. Choose IIT Guwahati – M.Tech CSE as preferred.
• Step 4: Participate in multiple rounds of seat allocation (Round 1, 2, 3, and spot rounds).
• Step 5: After seat allotment, report to IIT Guwahati for document verification and fee payment.
• Step 6: For sponsored candidates: Apply directly to IIT Guwahati under sponsored category, interview may be conducted.
• CCMT closing rank (approx. for 2024): GATE score 650-700 (out of 1000) for General category; varies each year.

• Fee payment via online SBI e-collect or demand draft in favour of “IIT Guwahati” payable at Guwahati.
