M.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology (B.E./B.Tech) or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline with minimum 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwD) or CPI of 6.0 on 10-point scale.
• Valid GATE score in CS (Computer Science and Information Technology) paper. GATE score validity: 3 years.
• For candidates with B.Tech from IITs with CPI ≥ 8.0, GATE exemption may apply as per institute norms.
• Final year students can apply but must meet degree requirements by time of admission.
• No age limit.

Fee Structure Breakdown (General Category)

• One-time fees (admission, registration, etc.): Rs. 16,000
• Tuition fee per semester: Rs. 25,000 (4 semesters total Rs. 1,00,000)
• Other semester fees (gymkhana, medical, library, etc.): ~Rs. 10,000 per semester (total Rs. 40,000)
• Hostel rent (including electricity): Rs. 15,000 - Rs. 20,000 per semester
• Mess advance: ~Rs. 12,500 per semester (adjustable against actual consumption)
• Total approximate for 2 years including hostel and mess: Rs. 2,50,000 - Rs. 3,00,000
• Institute fellowships: M.Tech students with GATE are eligible for MHRD scholarship of Rs. 12,400 per month (subject to norms).

Seat Matrix

• Total seats: ~30-40 for CSE. Includes: Institute category (General, OBC, SC, ST, EWS), sponsored seats, and foreign nationals.
• Reservation as per Government of India norms: 15% SC, 7.5% ST, 27% OBC (non-creamy layer), 10% EWS.
• Sponsored seats: For candidates employed in industry/R&D with at least 2 years experience. No GATE required.

Admission Process

• Appear for GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) conducted by IITs/ISC. Typically held in February.
• After GATE results, register on COAP (Common Offer Acceptance Portal) for IIT admissions.
• IIT Kanpur releases departmental cutoffs and shortlists candidates for counseling based on GATE score.
• Shortlisted candidates may be called for written test/interview (depending on department).
• Final selection based on GATE score (70-100% weightage) plus academic performance and interview.
• Selected candidates receive offers via COAP; accept offer, pay seat acceptance fee, and complete document verification.

Reporting and Documents Required

• Report to IIT Kanpur, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh - 208016 within the date specified in offer letter.
• Documents: GATE scorecard, COAP offer letter, B.E./B.Tech degree certificate and all semester mark sheets, Class 10 and 12 certificates, Valid photo ID (Aadhaar/PAN/Passport), Category certificate (if applicable), PwD certificate (if applicable), Sponsorship letter (for sponsored candidates), Migration certificate, Anti-ragging undertaking, Medical fitness certificate.
