Aligarh Muslim University

Aligarh Muslim University was established in 1920, evolving from the Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College founded by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan in 1875. Engineering education at AMU is housed in the Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology (ZHCET), named after India's third President and one of the oldest engineering colleges in the country, with departments spanning Computer Engineering, Electronics, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Petrochemical Engineering.

As a central university, AMU is directly funded by the Government of India, which keeps fees exceptionally low relative to private and even many state institutions, while its century-long academic heritage gives it a strong regional and national reputation, particularly across North India.

The AMU campus in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh spans over 400 acres and is one of India's most complete residential university towns, with its own schools, hospital (JN Medical College), mosques, and extensive hostel network. ZHCET occupies a dedicated section of this campus with departmental buildings, workshops, and laboratories built up over decades.
