Admission to IIST is based on rank in JEE (Advanced-linked merit), but candidates must separately register for IIST's own centralised counselling — it is not part of the standard JoSAA system used for IITs/NITs. Seats are allotted based on rank, category, and branch preference through IIST's dedicated admission portal.
