About UPES
University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) was established in 2003 in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, with founding industry backing oriented toward the energy and petroleum sector — a niche that gave it early differentiation from generic private engineering colleges. Since then, UPES has expanded substantially, building a large School of Computer Science that now accounts for the bulk of its engineering intake, alongside its original strengths in Petroleum Engineering, Automotive Design, and allied energy programmes.
UPES has positioned itself around industry-integrated curricula, with several programmes co-designed with corporate partners and built-in industry certification tracks.
Campus & Facilities
UPES operates from the Energy Acres and Knowledge Acres campuses in Bidholi and Kandoli, Dehradun, with modern academic blocks, dedicated labs for automotive and energy specialisations, and a growing computer science infrastructure including AI/ML and gaming labs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is UPES good for Petroleum Engineering?
UPES is one of India's few private universities with a dedicated Petroleum Engineering programme and strong ties to energy-sector recruiters like ONGC and Shell, making it a recognised niche choice for that specialisation.
What is UPESEAT?
UPESEAT is UPES's own entrance aptitude test; applicants can alternatively use their JEE Main score or Class 12 board merit for admission, depending on the programme.
