Indian Institute of Technology Patna

Indian Institute of Technology Patna was established in 2008 as one of the first batch of new IITs sanctioned that decade. After operating from a transit campus, it moved to its permanent campus at Bihta on the western outskirts of Patna, Bihar, where it now runs undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes across Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Materials Science Engineering.

The institute has built research strength particularly in VLSI and semiconductor design, computational and data sciences, and structural/geotechnical engineering, supported by dedicated centres of excellence and sponsored research funding from government bodies.

The Bihta campus spans several hundred acres and includes academic blocks, a central library, hostels, sports facilities, and a growing set of research centres. Its location outside central Patna gives it room for expansion but means students rely on institute transport for city access.
